Creating the Social Links menu

While WordPress does not provide a social media profiles section, you can easily use WordPress menus to add and display social media icons on your WordPress site.

Themes Harbor themes come with a specially designed custom WordPress menu for displaying social icons on your site which automatically detects the URLs of your menu links and shows the appropriate social icon on your site.

You don't need to install any 3rd party plugins. It's all done using a native WordPress functionality along with a great support for this functionality provided by the theme.

Depending on your theme, the social icons menu can appear in the header or in the footer area, or in both areas.

Adding the Social Menu

The process of creating a social menu is very similar to the process of adding the Custom Menu:

  1. Create a new Custom Menu, and assign it to the Social menu location.
  2. Add links to each of your social services using the Links panel.
  3. Save your menu when you are ready.

Now your site should display social media icons for the services you’ve added to your social links menu.

Note, the theme might not support all the social networks. If the social network is not supported in the Social menu then the menu will show a default icon for the link.
