The Excerpt

Excerpt is a short summary of the full post or page content. You can show your readers a brief overview of what they can expect when reading the full content by using the Excerpt. Depending on the theme you have activated on your site, excerpts may be displayed on your homepage or archives pages.

Block Editor

  1. Open your post or page in the Editor.
  2. Under the Document settings on the right of the editor click on Excerpt.
  3. Add an introduction or summary of the post in the Excerpt textarea.
  4. Click the Update button (or Publish if not yet published).

Classic Editor

  1. Open your post or page in the Editor.
  2. Below your the main content area, find the Excerpt module.
  3. Add an introduction or summary of the post in the Excerpt textarea.
  4. Click the Update button (or Publish if not yet published).

If your Classic Editor does not show the Excerpt module then make sure this option is enabled in the editor:

  1. Find Screen Options in the upper right corner of the screen of your Classic Editor.
  2. Click on it to open an options panel.
  3. Select excerpt checkbox.

Note: the Excerpt feature only works with certain themes.
